Brief Description of the Projects:

1. Construction of small bridges/culverts (up to 12 Meter) long on the roads constructed under food for works programmes:

The estimated cost of the project isTk.13.8 million (GOB grant). The duration of the project is from July, 2005- June, 2008. The objective of the project is to construct small bridges/culverts to connect local markets, growth centers, schools and Union Parisads with the villages and pucca roads to develop marketing facilities of rural products, increase agricultural production, create employment opportunities and alleviate rural poverty. Under this project small bridges and culverts will be constructed in 454 Upazilas/Thanas of the country at a cost Tk. 30.00 lakh in each upazila/Thana.

2. Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP):

The Programme will be implemented with UNDP, DFID and EC assistance of US$ 25.82 million. The duration of the programe is from January 2003-December 2009. This programme is designed to make a shift from traditional relief culture to disaster management for risk minimization and mitigation practice. The objective of the programme is to reduce the vulnerability of the poor to keep the affects of natural, environmental and human induced hazards to a manageable and acceptable humanitarian level through strengthening of institutional mechanism, expanding preparedness programme.

3 Extension of Chittagong Silo Jetty Project:

The estimated cost of the project is Tk. 415.60 million. The project is being implemented with GOB grant. The duration of the project is from July, 1998-June, 2008. The objective of the project is to extend Chittagong Silo Jetty to unload imported food grain rapidly and safely. Also to provide facilities for berthing of two ships at the Silo Jetty at a time.

4. National Food Policy Capacity Strengthening Programme (NFPCSP) :

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is being provided assistance from USAID & EC for the project in Bangladesh with an estimated contribution of US$ 10.7 million. The duration of the project is from January, 2005-December-2009. The project purpose is to contribute to the improvement in the food security policy framework and the implementation of the comprehensive food security policy in a manner that facilitate the attainment of the development goals.

5. Procurement of Equipments for Search and Rescue Operation for Earthquake and other Disasters:

The Project will be implemented with GOB grant. The total cost of the project is Tk.356.766 million and the duration of the project is from July 2006-June 2008. The objective of the project is to procure equipments for search and rescue operation for emergency response as a part of disaster management. Implementation of the project will result in speedy and systematic rescue operation by scientific mechanism.

6. Procurement of Equipments for Disaster Management:

The Project will be implemented with JDCF grant. The total cost of the project is Tk. 552.60 million and the duration of the project is from July 2006-June 2008. The objective of the project is to procure equipments for search and rescue operation for emergency response as a part of disaster management. Implementation of the project will result in speedy and systematic rescue operation by scientific mechanism.
